History Effective Asset Management not only relates to knowing what assets are currently located on the network but also to being able to identify historical changes. The new History option in DNA 2.0 enables you to track changes to a Clients Hardware and Software. Each time DNA gathers Inventory data it compares the current details against information already held on the server and if there are any differences they are recorded in the History.

Application Metering The DNA application Metering component reports back all applications used on a Target PC, details reflect the time the application was started and finished, the actual time it was in use and when viewed at departmental level, summaries by frequency of use or by duration are shown.

In addition application usage can be restricted on target PCs by the Time of Day, a department or usage can be limited to specified PC's.

Internet Metering Like Application Metering, the DNA Internet Metering Module provides a detailed summary of activity on a user PC, in this case for Internet (or Intranet) activity. URL's visited, duration on a page and page analysis within a specific URL are all recorded. DNA even provides a quick link to review a specific URL.

Internet Metering also provides the Operator with the ability to restrict URL access based on its status of Approved or Restricted and by a flexible time based policy.

Distribution DNA provides a multi delivery option for software distribution. To begin an Operator can define a Software package to be deployed - this can either be a collection of Files and Folders specified with appropriate action parameters to be applied once delivered to a target system or by recording and scripting any user prompts required during an application installation so that the package can be deployed onto a users system without intervention.

Once created the application package can be automatically "Pushed" to target PCs for deployment or "Published" centrally. Once Published a User can check to see which applications are available for their PC and install these on Demand.

New in DNA 2.00, To ease network traffic congestion when executing large-scale deployments, DNA enables you to nominate Clients, ideally local to the target machines, to act as a 'distribution warehouse'. When the Package is deployed, rather than the server pushing it to each Client in turn, it sends the distribution package to the DNA Warehouse Client, which then distributes it to the remaining targets over the local lan segment.

Also new in DNA 2.0, Designed for situations where the application to be rolled-out does not have its own 'silent' install routine. The DNA Application Packager enables operators to record and playback a 3rd party installer.

All necessary keystrokes and mouse movements are stored in a script, which is then played back at the recipient PC, removing the need for user intervention.

The SmartView World offers a unique mix of local (server room), regional (office-wide) and global (IP based) server control to match the needs of network managers. KVM consoles may be directly attached to provide local control in the server room. Integrated extender ports enable control consoles to be located in offices up to 200m away and linked via Cat5/6 cabling. For wider access the SmartView World provides secure Intranet, Internet or dial-in IP control so users can gain access to servers from any PC on the company's internal network or from anywhere around the world.

The SmartView World supports four simultaneous users, sixteen computers and is cascadeable to support up to 500 multi-platform computers using Adder's XPro or Matrix switches. Almost all common types of computer may be connected using Adder's PS/2, USB and Sun style KVM cables. One of the user ports is local, one operates via IP and the other two support both local and twisted pair extension connections.

The IP port is rich in features and is easy to use via its graphical interface which operates from within a standard web browser. In standard configuration mode the IP port will not require additional firewall ports to be opened, making the product popular with system administrators.

Power control is an integral part of remote server management. For robust, reliable and secure batch job management in a networked environment, ROC Maestro for MPE is the solution. Easy installation and reliable functionality make this powerful solution the choice of thousands of MPE users. In addition to date, day of the week and time, ROC Maestro for MPE can schedule jobs anywhere on the network according to standard or customized business calendars. At the start of each processing day, ROC Maestro for MPE automatically selects all groups of jobs that run on that day, and carries forward uncompleted schedules from previous days. A schedule can use combinations of calendars to determine execution days, and multiple schedules can use the same calendars. Time constraints can be set for both jobs and schedules, specifying the time that execution should begin, or the time after which execution should not be attempted.

Job initiation can also be dependent on the successful completion of other jobs and schedules, on the existence of needed files on any node in the network, on user response to a ROC Maestro for MPE prompt, or on the availability of critical hardware or data resources.

The system can manage multiple schedules, each with its own set of constraints and dependencies. When there is a limit as to how many jobs can run simultaneously due to resource or administrator constraints. ROC Maestro for MPE selects which jobs to run based on an extensive priority scheme (effective range of 100).

The systems recovery facility ensures that aborted jobs are addressed automatically. After detecting failed jobs, ROC Maestro for MPE puts dependent jobs on hold while it initiates any combination of the following recovery actions: alert the operator, run a recovery job, stop processing, rerun the original job, or continue with the next job(s) in the queue. Maestro also easily incorporates and controls jobs it did not schedule to prevent overloading and conflicts.

ROC Maestro for MPE's sophisticated architecture provides multiple benefits. Fault tolerance guards against both system and network failures. If the central management system fails, a second system can take over. In case of a network failure, remote systems can continue launching jobs without instructions from the central management system. From a central system, ROC Maestro for MPE defines and monitors job scheduling, not only on MPE systems but also on any other networked UNIX or Windows NT system.
